I’m constantly astounded that maybe, maybe, 10% of Aptify clients have a stock database instance and/or their developers use a stock instance. I’ve been using the stock database since roughly 2013, for all my fiddling and learning everything Aptify.
Note: I’m going to assume you have a good grasp on Aptify’s overall infrastructure setup. If not, check out my article on that Aptify Environment Infrastructure Overview.
What Is It?
The Aptify Stock Database is the database that you’ve seen in every Aptify demonstration or training session. It has data for pretty much all the different services in Aptify.
Why Should You Care?
Because it is a raw OTB Aptify instance. There are no third-part customization at all. You can think of it as if you got Aptify and only imported your data, nothing else. Now pause and think, you have your Aptify instance and you’ve now got a raw OTB Aptify instance… See were I’m getting at?
You can use this instance for comparison between your instance and stock. Do performance differences, test features you don’t yet use, or my favorite, upgrade the stock instance first and try out new features before applying it to your own instance.
The other primary reason for it? Developer playground. I think I can safely state that 45% of all my knowledge of Aptify is because of the stock database. I’ve been using it since roughly 2013 and can have anywhere from 1-6 instances on my computer at any time for different ideas, projects, tests, etc.
